Air Quality Portal

The volume and toxicity of motor emissions are largely dependent on the consumed fuel quality. Important steps have been taken to improve fuel quality in recent years. Namely:

  • From 2012 to 2017, sulfur content in petrol has decreased by 25 times.
  • From 2012 to 2019, sulfur content in diesel has reduced by 6 times.
  • As a result of the tightening of the standard, since 2017, the country uses the Euro 5 standard petrol.
  • From 1 January 2019, quality of diesel fuel has reached Euro 4 standard, and from 2020 will be equal to Euro 5.
  • Since 2016, state control of fuel quality has started.
  • In 2018, petrol and diesel fuel quality was checked at 143 gas stations.
  • No lead content was detected in 250 gasoline samples.

In the country it is prohibited to manufacture, import and supply of leaded gasoline. All studies of gasoline done by different sectors  in different labs confirms that the leaded gasoline in the country is not consumed.

The improvement of the fuel quality has reduced the number of important pollutants in the air. As a result, sulfur dioxide content in atmospheric air throughout the country is significantly lower than the limit value. Limit value for benzene are not exaggerated as well.
